Volunteers Become a KEEN volunteer “coach”! In addition to working with some great kids and young adults with disabilities, you will meet a variety of interesting community-minded people. Volunteering for KEEN is fun and offers opportunities for occasional participation, regular involvement, and leadership. You don't need any prior experience working with disabled individuals - we'll train you on your first day. You don't need to be athletic, either. Our athletes will love you just as you are! Our program is structured so that each volunteer is assigned one program participant. (We call our program participants "athletes", regardless of their athletic skills and abilities, and call our volunteers "coaches", regardless of their experience.) You’ll become a coach once you’ve filled out our registration form and attended our orientation. As a coach, your job is to help your athlete take part in different sports activities and to have a good time. Just before the athletes arrive and the session begins, we’ll give you a profile with details about your athlete’s abilities as well as lots helpful coaching hints. (It’s important to note that our athletes have varying degrees of skill; although it’s not always possible, we will try to match you up with an athlete that matches your sport interest and energy level.) Minimum age for volunteers is 15 years old. Individual volunteers are welcome to attend any session. Please let us know when you plan to come. Simply Contact Us via e-mail or leave a message on the KEEN voicemail at 312-876-2535 to let us know you’re coming. Become a volunteer coach for KEEN in four easy steps: We also welcome volunteer groups, but ask that they Contact Us to reserve a date in advance. |
